HOUSE RESOLUTION 22

"In memory of Luke E. Terry, former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from the County of Berkeley."
Whereas, Luke Edward Terry of Martinsburg was born August 21, 1916, in Oneida, Tennessee, the son of the late A. C. and Nell S. Terry, and died on Monday, October 20, 1998, at the age of eighty- two.
Luke Terry received his education the in the public schools and graduated with the Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, the Master of Science degree from West Virginia University, and the Doctor of Jurisprudence from George Washington University. He also attended Shepherd College.
He was married on December 26, 1941, to Elizabeth Johnson of Martinsburg, and they had four children: Luke E., Jr., Kathryn T. (Buckhart), Mary T. (Edwards) and Rebecca J. (Farrow), all of whom survive.
Luke Terry established a law practice in Berkeley county and was a member of the West Virginia State Bar, the Berkeley County and the American Bar Associations. He was past President of the Berkeley County Bar Association, a member of the Board of Governors of the West Virginia State Bar and served as Vice President of the West Virginia Bar Association.
Interested not only in the practice of law but also in the making of it, Mr. Terry ran and was successfully elected to four terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates, in 1957-58, and again in 1971 through 1976. He was also Director of Legislation for the West Virginia Farm Bureau and was a twenty-one year member of Local Board 28, Selective Service System, and served as Chairman of the Selective Service Board of Berkeley County. An Air Force Veteran of World War II, Luke Terry also was a member, deacon, elder and trustee at Winchester Avenue Christian Church of Martinsburg, and a member of Berkeley Lodge #37, Hedgesville, Mystic Order of the Shrine, Eastern Panhandle Shrine, DAV, and the American Legion; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That it is with heartfelt sorrow that this House of Delegates notes the passing of Luke Edward Terry, former member, colleague and friend, and extends to his wife, Elizabeth, and to his children our collective expressions of condolence; and, be it
Further resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare certified copies of this resolution for members of the Terry family.
